Pilot Project in District B to Stop Illegal Dumping

With piles of used furniture, yard waste, mattresses and other discarded items serving as the backdrop, Mayor Annise Parker and District B Council Member Jerry Davis kicked off a pilot project to catch those responsible for illegal dumping.  Funding for the project, approximately $250,000, was included in this year’s city budget as a result of an amendment presented by CM Davis.  Five surveillance cameras have been placed at undisclosed locations in Davis’ northeast Houston City Council district (houstontx.gov, 2013).

Southpark, Sunnyside, and Third Ward have suffered with illegal dumping for decades, if the pilot program works in North Houston, hopefully District D's new city council member will fight for surveillance cameras in high dumping areas within District D. Dumping is not only a eye sore for residence but a safety hazard for kids who play around areas that are used for dumping.
